Eat, Move, and Groove for Mental Clarity

We're often told the same two things to help improve mental clarity: get better sleep and cut back on screen time. While both are helpful, we can also look at the bigger picture and realize to boost mental clarity, it comes down to starting with three simple ideas: (1) how and what we eat; (2) how and when we move; and (3) how we embrace the "groove," or all of the ways we prioritize our overall well-being each and every day.

So how can you take a moment to focus on eating, moving, and grooving? Here's a solution. You can rely on the simple structure of the Eat Move Groove system - even on your busiest and most stressful days. Let's take a closer look.

EAT: Food is brain fuel. This fuel helps us stay sharp so we can evaluate and navigate the decisions we make all day long. What you eat and when you eat both directly affect how clearly you think. Nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats contribute positively to your mood and concentration.

Make it simple and choose meals based on the Eat Move Groove 2211 plan - prioritizing fruits and vegetables; high-quality protein sources like lean meats, fish, yogurt, and beans; whole grains like whole wheat bread, brown rice, and quinoa; and healthy fats, especially omega-3 fats found in fatty fish, walnuts, avocados, and flaxseeds. These foods provide important support for brain health. MOVE: Have you ever heard people say they really didn't feel like moving today, but decided to be active anyway? Maybe they had a low-energy day, but still went out for that morning walk, and were really glad they did. In fact, engaging in physical activity is one of the fastest ways to reduce brain fog and increase mental clarity. Moving your body boosts circulation, improves mood, and re-energizes you.

How can you start? Just begin with a 5-minute “movement snack” between tasks at work or at home. Try this 5-minute stability video with Leah from our Eat Move Groove YouTube channel. It's easy to do, and helps you get out of a chair and feel refreshed!

GROOVE: Groove is what brings you joy, keeps you calm, and offers a sense of personal alignment. I believe it's the missing piece in wellness -- but even more essential for mental clarity. Your groove could be spending time in nature, trying a new restaurant, playing a board game, listening to music, or simply doing anything that brings you joy!

The next time you're feeling a little scattered or sluggish, take a look at how you’re eating, moving, and grooving. Then, ask yourself how you can adjust your daily habits to have the best mental clarity. Start with the tips above. You might be surprised at how good you feel by building your health and well-being currency one step at a time.
